On a rainy gray day after work, as I drove back to my motel, still a few days left on my no contact order of protection, my car died. I was going downhill, so it kept rolling, but I could tell I had no power. The radio went out, and the headlights flickered. The AC fan stopped.
In a flash, I bumped the shifter on the steering column up from drive to neutral, so the car would keep rolling free. Then I turned the key off, then on to restart the car. After a couple of tries the engine restarted, and I shifted back into drive. The rain was coming down and a lightning bolt flashed in the distance. I was glad the car restarted. I really dodged a bullet. I didn’t feel like walking a few miles in the rain.
I got to my motel and popped open the hood. The battery terminals were corroded, and one was a little loose. I checked the date sticker on the battery; it was getting old. I changed clothes in the motel, then went out to get a new battery. I looked forward to getting back home in a few more days.
